2018. We have been waiting for you.

The year of ultimate awesomeness and overriding any rubbishness of 2016 and 2017 in one large swoop!

New years resolutions are different for everyone. Sometimes you just think of something you want to change, try it, and it sticks… Other times it takes a bit of planning. And for those really BIG goals that push even you to your limits, we’ve created a structural plan of attack, to keep you on track and motivated until your new year’s goals are achieved!

Step 1. Evaluate

You can’t work out where you’re heading, or understand what you are achieveing if you dont already appreciate how far you have come. Humans work best when we know where we are going, and how we are going to get there. And the best way to work that out is sometimes looking back at how we got to where we are now.

Think back, or scroll back through your 2017 Google Calendar, paper diary, your Facebook pictures, your Instagram – whatever it is that best marks the highlights of your year. Actually, use the showreel we create 24/7 for other people to look at and take a look at it yourself. You might just surprise yourself with how many incredible highlights you had in 2017…Even for those with the toughest skin, without some sense of self-gratification and love, we ain’t gonna get very far.

Now, write them down. What went well? What made you smile, laugh, cry? What worked and what didn’t?

Take a moment to work out why some things made you happier than others, and then find the great ones.

As humans or any creature on this planet, we tend to learn from our mistakes… most of the time. Sometimes it takes humans a bit more hindsight or perspective, and using the turning of a new year can be a great way to evaluate… Looking back mindfully over all of our achievements – good or bad.

Step 2. Plan

Here’s the fun part! This is where you get to write down all the things you want to achieve this year, no matter how mad or crazy they might sound. Learn French, climb Kilimanjaro, Make £100,000, run a marathon, get famous, you name it! – Write it down and then begin planning how you’re going to get there!

Anything is possible when you put your mind to it. This being said, our minds often wonder, which is why it is good to write a plan of action down for you to follow, so you don’t fall off the track.

Now that you have evaluated your previous year and written down all the amazing things you want to achieve in 2018, planning becomes a little bit easier. You know what worked and what didn’t, and you know where you want to get, so now you can take heed in understanding how to achieve these new goals a little better…

If the aim is to run the marathon that you didn’t manage last year because of lack of motivation for training… you might prioritise joining a running club over your evening pub session every Wednesday.

If you found that hanging around French people is when you best pick up your Parisian twang, then planning more time with your French friend or taking a trip to Paris might be on your agenda…

Step 3. Achieve

So, how do we stick to these amazing resolutions through January and beyond?

When you think about making an extra 100k in one year, without winning the lottery, the initial feeling for most is probably overwhelming with a feeling of ‘how the hell am I going to do that?!’.

The best way to break this down and beat those feelings of overwhelming and overburdened expectations of yourself is to break it down.

What can you do this season? This month? This week, or even today? What is your step one?

A good way of looking at it could be to set yourself weekly targets of what you need to achieve or introduce new things to your schedule that aid your achievement of your new set goals.

We are creatures of habit, so if you can curate your own habitual patterns aimed towards achieving these magical resolutions – run twice a week, work on my new money project every Thursday morning, go hiking up a hill every other weekend – and work on sticking to them, then trust me, you’ll get there.

Never Give Up! Even if it takes longer than you think, so long as you persist you cannot fail.

Believe in Yourself. Self-belief goes a long way, and if you can take a few moments every day, visualising yourself achieving your goal, feeling that feeling of achievement you will feel when you finally get there, the end goal will seem so much closer.

Be continuously grateful for how far you have come, even if you don’t feel like it’s very far at all.

When you don’t congratulate your wins, the universe probably thinks you don’t appreciate them or want them, so it will probably stop sending you any wins, and instead, loads of fails. Remember, our thought processes are things of habit too! – Strengthen your positive neurological pathways about yourself, not the rubbish ones.

And that’s all folks! We hope this plan of action will set you on your way to having the most incredible year ahead. We certainly will be!
